About the Course

This is an undergraduate course which is a part of the undergraduate curriculum of the School of Applied Mathematical and Physical Sciences of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA).

This is an elective course. The students majoring in "Computational and Theoretical Physics" must choose between this course and "Computational Physics II" during the 8th semester of their studies.

This page contains information and material relevant for the general relativity part of the course. Cosmology has a different page on Helios.

Topics

General Relativity: Equivalence principle. Inertial observers in curved spacetime. Geodesics. Spacetime around a spherical mass. Parallel transport and covariant derivatives. The Riemann curvature tensor. Black holes. Stress-energy tensor.

Cosmology: Robertson-Walker metric. Cosmological redshift. Hubble expansion. Cosmological models. Inflationary Scenaria. CMB. Equations of state inside stars. Gravitational waves.

Curriculum: For the topics covered in each General Relativity class, visit the Timetable page. The Topics section of the page of each Lecture has the details. For the Cosmology section, visit the page of the course on Helios.
